'The Fisherman' - produced by Areaman Productions

‘The Fisherman’, has been selected to screen at Krakow Film Festival 2012, one of the oldest film events dedicated to documentary, animated and short fiction films in Europe. ‘The Fisherman’ was the result of a collaboration with photographer Patrick Bolger and was produced as part of the Irish Film Board’s ‘Reality Bites’ scheme. It is one of two Irish short documentaries that have made the official selection in the category ‘INTERNATIONAL SHORT FILM COMPETITION; Documentary’. The excellent short documentary ‘Home Turf’, directed by Ross Whitaker and produced by Aideen O’Sullivan, will also be screened.

‘In Bed with the Irish’ aired on RTÉ Two, on Monday 13 February 2012 at 9.30pm. The programme was part of RTÉ’s Reality Bites documentary strand which covers the stories and issues that fascinate and challenge Irish people today. The programme can now be viewed on the RTÉ Player.

‘In Bed with the Irish’ offers viewers a sneak peak into Irish people’s hearts, minds and bedrooms. The programme uncovers the nation’s attitudes to love, intimacy, snoring and duvet theft through the honest opinions of a range of Irish couples.

THE MAKING OF 'TIS PITY SHE'S A WHORE

We have greatly enjoyed filming sequences that have been incorporated into Director Selina Cartmell’s latest theatre project. ‘The Making of Tis Pity She’s a Whore’ will be Influenced by the works of filmmakers from Fellini to Lynch and is directed by The Irish Times Irish Theatre Award-winner, Director Selina Cartmell.

A film director assembles a cast and crew to film the darkly comic and brilliantly horrific play Tis Pity She’s a Whore, John Ford’s Jacobean Masterpiece. What ensues is the recreation, on a contemporary film set, of this story of forbidden love, lust and obsession.

Through Ford’s vivid characters the classic tale begins to resonate with the actors and crew on the set and as the boundaries of these two worlds blur reality, fantasy, life and art collide with disastrous results. With a combination of live and filmed scenes (by Areaman Productions) this innovative re-imagining is vividly brought to life by a stellar cast including: on stage – Cathy Belton, Barbara Brennan, Kate Stanley Brennan, Phelim Drew, Louis Lovett; on film – Lorcan Cranitch, Simon Delaney, Tom Hickey, John Kavanagh, Paul Reid; and the crew – Rosin Agnew, Cara Christie, Isadora Epstein, Manus Halligan, Ian Kinane, Liam McCarthy, Meadhbh McHugh, Doireann O’Byrne

Bord Scannán na hÉireann/The Irish Film Board (BSÉ/IFB) new ‘Signatures’ and ‘Reality Bites’ shorts will be unveiled in a special premiere programme, consisting of the eight short films and documentaries at this year’s 56th Corona Cork Film Festival which takes place from the 6th-13th November.

THE FISHERMAN follows Pat Walker as he climbs the high hill of Bull na Mór, overlooking the Atlantic Ocean to honour his father Pake Walker’s memory and to contemplate a life spent at sea.
The film was directed and edited by Tom Burke. Tom Burke and Patrick Bolger shared Director of Photography duties. Shane Hogan produced and Gerry Horan composed the music.

Signatures and Reality Bites will screen in the Cork Opera House on Saturday 12th November at 4pm.
